This is kind of late post but I still want to write about it before the year 2008 comes to its end. Its about the fieldwork to the lovely Tambunan. Lately, the school had organized a fieldwork to Rumah Anak Yatim Ray Tambunan to visit the orphanage. The aims of this fieldwork are to measure the nutritional status of the orphans via anthropometry measurements, to expose the students to the community that includes the orphans thus investigating cases of malnutrition (if any) among them as well as to show some love and care for the unfortunate children that had lost their beloved ones and families. There were 84 students accompanied by our lecturer and a staff from the school. We were using 3 buses to get there and began the journey by 8am, Monday. The road to Tambunan as usual, not really smooth but the view was quite breathtaking and even my coursemates from Peninsular took pictures from inside the bus. They were really amazed with the panorama and the green scenery alongside the road. The fieldwork was quite a success for us because we managed to achieve the aims and the stated objectives. Here are some pictures just to share:
Dimly visible view from inside the bus as we headed-on to Tambunan. Quite dangerous but still an astonishing rainforest I could tell you and a bit cold but the aircond was on.
Kami sempat singgah sekejap di sini. Matlamat utama: cari tandas!hahaha...This is my friend Stanley posing in front of the signboard. We wanted to look for the real Rafflesia but they only provide us with the fake one in the exhibition room.
We took a picture in front of the exhibition hall here with a big smile. FYI, no shoes are allowed here..hehehe..
Right to left: Ester, Sheerah, Elsner and me. Always the best buddies for gossiping around. We sat at the back so nobody bothers. Ahha..
Finally we arrived here in Rumah Anak Yatim Ray Tambunan. A lovely place I must say!And taking pictures is a must.
This was the scenario during the briefing by the deputy principal. It was not a shocking moment. We had been informed that most of them woke up as early as 5 am to prepare for our visits!OMG, thats so early. The deputy principal in his speech said that most children that were sent here are not in their best moral attitudes. But they can be educated and equipped with that as they are still merging young children aged between 7 years and above. We understood that.
This one look like he was snoring. Hehe..
This was the condition after that; we were giving them food for lunch and most children were really thrilled. They came alive and fresh!A really good psychology because children at this kind of age really loves food as a present. We sat and ate with them, chatted with them and asking them so many questions.
Nah, Stanley with three cute orphans. This picture was taken during our room raider there. At first they were so shy but warm up quickly. We were told that we should not enter their room/hostels without permission but we accidentally did that and its okay!I guess..hehe..
The activity inside the hall. We taught them some action songs and the respond was spontaneously amazing! The songs were epo epo, mandalilang and lai chi kang (any idea?).
We did play games! And this one was ayam VS serigala (or whatever la..) Really2 fun!
The little girls there are sooo cute!
Group photo in the afternoon. Just moments before we end our visits there.
Before we end our visits that day, we had a gift presentation to the orphans for their cooperation with us for the entire day. Everyone was so happy because they got new presents from us. We prepared at least two presents of any kind that suits them. Not too costly but just enough for their needs and necessities. We got to sang the song "Heal The World" at the end of the day and we really hope that they could somehow be a good person and succeed in their life even without the privileges that others experienced.
